Not much happening here. We have had a few free days and we have taken advantage of this by laying low at the hotel and just letting Mali have some kind of schedule. Yesterday she had her first dip in the pool. She was a bit leery at first but them warmed up to it. We have spent some time on Shamian Island. It really is a fun place to hang out. We have eaten at Lucy's Bar and Cafe a few times (pretty mediocre western food, but the beer is cold and good). I could eat Chinese food all of the time while here. It is going to be hard to eat our version of Chinese food when we get home.
Today we are going back to the island with our group for a tour of the jade market and to try some interesting foods such as scorpions and seahorse on a stick.
seaworms on a stick are apparently fabulous...I didnt have the guts to try them...but you are a foward thinking CA girl...try it!!!
ReplyDeletewe were never given the option for anything that exotic. the food all over china was mediocre to me because we seemed to always get served the same stuff. it was especially disappointing for G who is a vegetarian!
ReplyDeleteglad you are enjoying the time. can't wait for you guys to get home.
I didn't even know that there was a jde market on the island. But then again we were pretty busy with both kiddos all day long. The soon to try snacks...not on your life for me. I'll be interested to hear what you think of them. Brave stomach you have for sure.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are like my husband, another Andrew Zimmerman. He ate every oddity on a stick he could and then proceeded to eat like the locals and with the locals at their little out of the way restaurants.
ReplyDeleteMy husband wants to ask for "food: on a stick too. We shall see.
ReplyDeleteChecking in again, to get a fix of scrumptious. I've been thinking about you all so often, sending all the love and good mojo imaginable. xxx's from Texas
